Tips When Writing an Ebook:
Have you been wanting to write an Ebook? Have you been researching the basics of how to get it done? Then this post may help you fill in some areas you’re not sure about. I have just recently finished my first Ebook and I learned a lot from this experience that I would like to share with you. I made some mistakes and I know what I would do differently next time. And there are a few areas I still need to work on and research. So let’s get started.
1. You want to look professional.
This is my Ebook below.
This is very important. You don’t want it to look like you just threw something together. You want it to be a quality product if you expect people to spend their hard earned money on it. If there is something you are not good at HIRE someone who can do it for you. This does not have to be expensive. The best place to start looking is FIVERR. Just check on the person’s reviews and you should be good to go. This is how I got my book cover done because I am not good at graphic design. I paid $40 but I got a few extra perks. You could get it for about $20. Also make sure you get someone to format your book for you that knows the proper way to do it for Amazon or whatever platform you are using. I got someone to format mine for $5 on FIVERR. And lastly, do NOT forget to get your work proofread. I only got one person to do this and they missed a lot of mistakes that had to be fixed. The good news is after uploading you can go back and fix errors.
2. Learn as much as you can about marketing your book.
I did research this while I was writing my Ebook but this is where I need improving. If you are self-publishing you are in charge of promoting your book and you have to know how. This takes time and a lot of effort. Don’t make the mistake of thinking just because it’s on Amazon or another big platform it will sell on it’s on. That is not the case. You have to market and promote your book. When I launched my book I did not have a blog at the time. That is how a lot of people market their Ebooks, plus they already have an audience that they can market to before the book is even written! This is what I plan to do next time.
3. Be prepared for critics.
I honestly did not have to deal with this but I prepared myself for it anyway. There are people out there who may say something negative about your book. Try not to let it bother you and remember, not everyone thinks the same way, and that’s okay. Just the fact that you wrote an Ebook and put yourself out there means you are trying and that’s a great thing. Most people are too afraid to try!
4. Do a free promotion for your Ebook.
I read in many articles from people far more experienced that you should do a free promotion to get people to download your book. This may seem backwards because you are wanting to make money. However you are a new author and want to get your name out there and get exposure. This will help people in sharing your book with others and so on. It’s okay to make your book free because it will help you in the long run.
5. Ask family and friends to write you reviews (if they actually read your Ebook!).
There is nothing wrong with asking family and friends who read your book to leave you a review. You need to get some reviews because this is one way that helps people determine if they want to buy your Ebook. Keep it honest though and only ask people who have actually read your book and ask them to be specific. Not just “great book” but something like “I really liked the practical tips at the end of the book and the scriptures that backed the book.” You get the point. Give the people who haven’t decided if they want to buy it yet something to help them make the decision to buy. This is helpful for you and will also help you in ranking on Amazon.
I am planning on doing an in depth series on each step of writing an Ebook and actual steps for uploading it on Amazon and so forth. If this is something you would be interested in reading please let me know and I will be glad to make an in depth post about my experience.
